At Abbas Steel Group, we pride ourselves on our role as good corporate citizens. We constantly look for opportunities where we can share our success with the communities in which we operate. Community support is therefore an essential part of how we do business. We recognize our social responsibilities and are continuously striving to improve our performance in the areas of health, safety, environment and the overall commitment to our community.
As part of the company’s enhanced CSR program, ASG provides its high-quality steel at concessional rates to new low-cost housing projects as, places of worships, hospitals, educational institutions and community centers being built in and around Karachi.
Investing in our future generations is something we take very seriously. Reaching out to one of the most important segments of our society, our youth, ASG has launched a program with local Architecture & Engineering schools to host field trips at our factories so that the students may experience, first-hand, how steel is produced. The students are taken on a guided tour of our automatic and manual plants where they are educated by a group of Senior Product Managers and Site Engineers on the various stages of production and the process that take place at steel re-rolling mills.
In an ongoing effort to share our ethics and values, we ensure that all students that meet with us learn about the latest health and safety measurements and precautions in the steel industry and are taught about the importance of always striving to maintain the highest in quality standards.
ASG also holds seminars and workshops at several different Architecture and Engineering institutions in Pakistan to educate newcomers entering the steel and other related industries as well as future architects and engineers about the steel rerolling process, and the importance of quality standards and good business ethics.
This year (In 2009) we wanted to go a step further and give an opportunity to young students of Architecture with fresh ideas by providing them with a high visibility platform to display their creative side at a forum where senior members of the community would be present. Abbas Steel Group hosted its first annual IAPEX stall design competition where students from the local universities were invited to participate in a contest to design the ASG stall at IAPEX. This not only gave the students a chance to showcase their creativity and provide them with exposure at a high-profile event such as the IAPEX but also gave them an opportunity to learn about and work with steel, one of the main building materials they will be sure to work with on future projects.
This only further reinforces Abbas Steel Group’s ongoing efforts in supporting the Architects forum. The Architect community and our Group share common values such as concern for the environment and health & safety. It is a priority for us to inculcate these values in our day to day operations and therefore we feel it’s our responsibility to support and encourage the Architects with various efforts such as IAPEX.
